1/48 F4U-4 Corsair (Tamiya + CMK)

November 27, 2012 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2.4K

Hello,

This was my fist attempt at a major conversion to get a nice looking -4 in . It was not an easy conversion as some of the CMK resin shrank but eventually, with a little work and some Ultracast flaps, it all came together. Not going to lie to you - this build took a while!

The two difficult parts were the "underwing" and where the cowl front attached to the cowl. Tough joins but with some patience they go together.

Paint is lifecolor acrylics and went on beautifully. The CMK cockpit is gorgeous. The markings are Aeromaster. I didn't do a wash this time or a flat coat... I just liked the look of the new paint job.

  1. Having once done this conversion myself when it was first released, I know how difficult it really is, so you are to be commended for attempting it, and congratulated for such a really nice result.

  2. Very cool. You can never have enough Corsairs.

  3. Looks great. More photos would be nice.

  4. Nice build! I am trying to use my leftover Tamiya wingfold parts on my Hasegawa and Academy F4U-4's. Was tempted by the CMK kit- why the heck didn't Tamiya go and make a -4 kit?

GUY .. these pics are sooo GREAT ! I I can still see the pilots getting in one with his old fashioned seat chute, since that WAS the seat they had !
