1/48 Tamiya P-47D

November 14, 2012 · in Aviation · · 5 · 1.3K

This is my latest completion, and second . I didn't achieve the transparent look on the grey that I was aiming for, but it will have to do..lol

The only issues I have with the kit are the oversized hub on the Hamilton Standard prop and how the sway braces for the belly tank are engineered, I have a difficult time cleaning up the seams, and then at some point (points) I break them off. Hopefully next time I'll remember put some sort of guard around them. As for the prop I used a spare from the old bubbletop Thunderbolt.

The decals are a mix of several different sheet and after I got them on I noticed some registration problems. Oh well, you'll have that.

  1. Superb jug Rick. I have yet to build anything American!

  2. I like it a lot !

  3. Looks very nice Rick. You bringing to the Saturday gathering for a better look? Now that this project is complete, time to do the F-86's. I returned the 8 out of 10 stars as well.

  4. Very nice- can't wait to do "rat a dat" and the "red cheif" with my two Tamiya kits!

  5. Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate them.
Dan, just be careful of the sway braces on the belly, parts G1 & G2. I've never gotten them to fit without a lot of shimming and filling, only to break them off multiple times, since my brain can't seem to remember them...lol
My advice make some kind of cradle to attach to the fuselage to protect them.
