Paper Project in Plastic… Trumpeter 1/48 Messerschmitt Me509, JG 7, 1946
This is the Trumpeter kit of the German Proposal for the Me509, whch was drawn up to succeed the Me309 design moving the engine from the nose to midships (like the Airacobra/Kingcobra family.) and putting the cockpit where the engine had been!
The kit itself is very straightforwards and an easy build - I used No filler at all on mine, just one or two strips of plastic strip to add some detail. I chose to model the belly radiator closed up as this give a rear wall to the nosewheel bay.
The wingroot guns are Model Master brass from their set for a Fw190A-6/A-8 as the kit plastic was way out of scale.
The biggest issue was finding somewhere to put the nose weight - it REALLY needs it!
The spinner and all around the cockpit are full of lead, as in the leading edge of the wing and it still tail sits! (But ONLY with the nose wheel (which is a press fit) on!)
Decals are a mixture of Trumpeter kit (OK, at least they work right!) and my own stash (number, JG7 insignia and Hakenkreuz)
These photos were taken with my new digital camera - a Fuji S2980, which not only has a great macro function but also has a "super macro" mode for shots from up to 2cm from object!
Nice build. I have found myself pondering this kit, and I don't even build European Front subjects, much.
Nice finish for a paper plane.
