1/48 Spitfire Mk Vb Trop
This is the Tamiya kit with a few PE and resin bits added. Rivets were added using Rosie The Riveter tools. All markings were painted on using Montex paint masks and the stencilling comes from Hobby Decal dry transfers, eliminating the need for various clear coats.
The Tamiya 48th scale Spitfire kits are not without faults but they still go together very well. All in all this was a very fun project that I really enjoyed from start to finish.
Excellent Spitfire. These smoke and oil stains are brilliantly done. It's hard to believe that they are all done by freehand airbrushing (?), wonder if you use any other techniques? Love these fuel/oil spills.

Most of those stains are indeed airbrushed, but for some of them I outlined the stains with a black artist pencil. Those sharper lines were then 'fleshed out' and softened using the airbrush.

Really nice work here. One small nit (not a complaint), but the US Spit Vs were all Vc's - too bad we don't have a good one to use. Tamiya could make a killing if they'd just issue this with a revised wing.

Actually, before starting this one I briefly had a SH Mk Vc on my workbench. I did some dryfitting but decided the SH offering was not worth the effort, and went with the Tamiya Spitfire instead.
However, as I started this build I asked around on Britmodeller regarding which version HL-U could be and I seem to remember there was a chance this could be a Mk Vb after all, so I decided - right or wrong - that portraying this airframe as a Mk Vb was close enough.
Agreed, if Tamiya just decide to modify the wing they would have a sure winner for a Mk Vc.
