1/48th Dragon Ho-229B Nachtjager

December 27, 2012 · in Aviation · · 6 · 3.4K

I enjoy building WWII Luftwaffe night fighters. When I saw this kit I jumped at it. I loved the idea of the flying wing night fighter with Hs298 air-to-air missles.

This was my second kit and it followed the same build pattern that I had experienced with the previous kit. The sub assemblies fit nice, but when you try to bring the sub assemblies together their fit was sub par. Still I had fun with the kit, it was built right out of the box, but the markings are all mine. I got the idea for the paint scheme from an online picture, but I thought it needed more color so I used my number decals from my spares. I figure no harm no foul since this plane did not make it past the drawing board.

  1. Fantastic! And, a nice bit of work too.

  2. Great looking bird. Good thing they never made it into production...
Have had same experience with Dragon kits.

  3. Walt, that bird looks great! I think those 229s look so cool. If the Germans could've made it work, it might've been a real game-changer. I'm glad they didn't! I have both that kit and the single-seater in my model stash and you've given me some inspiration with yours. Well done Walt!

  4. Very unique choice of kit and a nice build/finish. Love the belly pic. Good work.

  5. Great looking Nachtjager! What ifs... are fun to build and you are never wrong on how you finish them. Keep them coming!

  6. Good job on that kit, Walt. I like the scheme, even it looks a teeny bit "Japanese" in style - just compare it to some well known Ki 45 Kai Toryu schemes!
