DML/Dragon 1/48 Ju-188A-4

December 28, 2012 · in Aviation · · 7 · 2K

This one took a while-both due to the quirkiness of the build and my indecision as to a paint scheme. Most of the kit decals were suspect so I ended up hitting the spares box. As a result, this example may have been active in the Baltic or North Sea in an anti-shipping role. A bit different.

  1. Bryan... That certainly is a striking scheme, so I'd say it was wise to wait until you found the scheme you did. Beautifully done.

  2. Great result on a difficult (at least for me) masking job - that must have been a nightmare (with or without pre-cut masks). Nice work, Bryan.

  3. It looks great. I am very interested in how the kit went together. If I can find a trading partner I would love to get one. Especially if you say it was a good build. I just love that great big greenhouse nose.

    • Its the Dragon Ju88 with appropriate extras to make the 188, so it can be a 'bit of a bear' to assemble. Take your time, and lay in some filler for you will need it.
Any other extras are for your budget, I'd recommend a set of props & spinners to suit a 188 (Quickboost or Aims)

  4. Beautiful job and on one of those strikingly attractive aircraft that seemed to 'pop up' from more ordinary parent airframes...
viz the 188 came from the Ju88 series as the Ta 152 came from the Fw190,
And it's a definitely unique colour scheme...

    well Done.

  5. Beautiful! I suppose there is a reason for very seldom seeing this kit built 🙂 !

    Best regards

    Magnus

  6. Thanks, guys. This was a rather difficult build that took some creative solutions-at least on my level. I do have a set of Squadron transparencies for anyone else tempted to build a 188-I used kit supplied stuff. I saw the color scheme once during a late night internet search, but was unable to find it again. Wings Palette got me close.
