Dragon 'Smart Kit' 1/35 Panther Ausf A

December 13, 2012 · in Armor · · 2 · 2.1K

This is one of the few armor kits I have built. All of my armor is OOB, due to it being built for an in club build contest, which follows the IPMS Out Of Box rules. I chose to build this kit because I have always liked the "modern" look of the Panther. It was also one of my first attempts at individual link tracks, and I must say, the 'Magic Track' system is one of the best things has ever come up with. I don't do the heavy weathering thing on my models, and armor is the same. Enjoy the pictures.

  1. Looks nice, George...I like it. I only do armor once in while myself (just for something different), but tell me, what exactly is a "Smart Kit" and how do the "magic tracks" work? You said they were all individual pieces? And that was a GOOD thing..?

  2. Thanks Craig. The "Smart Kit" series by Dragon include both Photo-etched bits and finely detailed teeny weeny plastic bits, so you can chosse which you would like to use. The Magic Track system is their version of a limited snap together system, in which the track links will stay together until you get them into position and apply liquid cement. I prefer Link-and-Length, myself, but anything is preferable to the vinyl or 'rubber band' style of track. Try one! They're not that hard. Really!
