Roden 1/48th S.E.5a

December 29, 2012 · in Aviation · · 6 · 1.5K

In the box, this kit provides all of the classic pebbly, wobbly plastic, fiddly fits, obscure attachment points, and horrific decals at no extra cost to the modeler. The scariest part was shaving down the tabs for the cabane and landing gear struts in order to get proper fit and alignment. Other than tossing a few instruments and wires into the cockpit and drilling out the holes in the reloading rail for the Lewis, I didn't do anything serious with this model. Paints are Floquil Antique White and Butternut for the CDL, Chestnut Brown for the propeller, French Khaki and RLM 81 Braunviolet mixed for a greenish PC-10. Decals are from Aviprint.

This one represents the machine flown by 12-victory ace Capt. Gwilym Lewis of No 40 Squadron RFC, among the fortunate fliers to survive the war.

Looks like the whole lot came out justfine considering all of the vises. A job well done. Well done indeed, in putting the wobbly , obscure and horrific together.

  2. Having wrestled with this bear myself, I can honestly say, excellent!

  3. Yeah, having done this bear of a kit, I can say you have definitely created a great model - a silk purse from a sow's ear.

  4. Very nice! And, in my opinion, the true colors are PC12

  5. Nice S.E.5a. Bad kit - a good model.

  6. Well done! I wish Eduard would do the SE5 in 1/48
