1/48 Messerspit Tamiya + Fusion Models (Captured Spitfire Mk.Vb with DB605 Engine)

January 11, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 6.2K

This cross breed model was built in 2011. It is Spitfire MkVb mated with Fusion DB605 conversion set. This aircraft (Spitfire MkVb serial EN850 / NX-X) flown by P/O Bernard Scheidhauer was captured in Jersey island (between England and France) after a crash landing on November 18, 1942 . Scheidhauer's aircraft (EN830) was shipped to Daimler Benz factory in Echterdingen- Germany. Several flights were made by Daimler-Benz pilots before conversion was attempted . A standard DB 605A-1 engine was mounted to the firewall . Spinner, propeller and carburator scoop are added from a Bf-109G. With german camouflage and yellow-painted nose modified EN830 served officially as a test bed . Its career ended on August 14, 1944 when a formation of US bombers attacked to Echterdingen

I used “Captured Spitfire Mk.Vb with DB605 Engine set” from “Fusion Models” for the conversion.
PE instrument panel, Ultracast resin seat and Quickboost gunsight added in the cockpit
Armament on the wings are deleted.

The painting was done with Gunze Sangyo acrylics. Camouflage scheme is RLM 74 /75 over RLM 04 .
Unfortunately decals are not included in the set. National insignias and swastikas are from my spare box.
Thanks to Mr Tarık Soylu for home made decals of black code letters (CJ ZY) on the fuselage and the wings.
Finally I replaced the cockpit door from Ultracast.

  1. That is a totally cool take on a different subject. I approve wholeheartedly. Your usual superb workmanship.

  2. Tolga... Gotta agree with Bryan, that is so COOL!

  3. Make that three of us...nice job, sir. Hadn't heard or seen of this before - thanks.

  4. That is really neat. A totally different look at things. That looks like a fun build. You did a great job with it and excellent paint work. How was the Fusion Models conversion? Is it still available? That might be a way to get me to build another Spitfire...or is that Messerspit?

  5. Apparently the German test pilots who flew it thought it was a dream of an aeroplane. With the performance of the DB605 but without the handling qualities of the Bf 109 🙂

Very nice job on the model.

  6. Very very nice. I did that conversion myself about 11 years ago, having picked up the set at the 2001 IPMS Nats in Chicago. It had decals then. Yours is a superb rendition. A "10."
