Academy 1/72 P-51B…

January 25, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 4.1K

...this one doesn't really help the USAF against the Messerschmitts but it is still a 🙂 ! kit with Cutting Edge decals. Metal finish was Vallejo (!), a bit fragile but still the best I have managed yet! I'll see if I can complement this article with a few more photos tonight. Might be a golden opportunity to fix that antenna as well...

Edit: I have now fixed the antenna and taken a bunch of photos of it!

Magnus

  1. Very nicely done. It makes my recent Howard Hughes TWA P-51B whiffer look like it was done by a third grader. Very well done and subtyl weathered. A great finish on a so-so kit make a beautiful model. Adios, larry.

  2. Larry! I remember this as an enjoyable build. I have future plans to do "Hot Pants", a P-51B that forced-landed in Sweden, in its original colours. They don't cost a fortune either which adds to the attraction 🙂 !

  3. Amazing work, Magnus...such detail for 72nd - nice!

  4. Craig! It is actually out-of-the-box with exception of the seat belts. Just paint and a good base model can do wonders 🙂 !

  5. Very nice NMF, Magnus! For the scale it looks very convincing and without those 'flakes' often showing when used on 1/72 and smaller scales

What paint did you use for the yellow?

  7. If I remember correctly, it was the rather horrible Aeromaster acrylic RLM-yellow (RLM 24?). Colour is spot on but it was (like all in that range) like spraying porridge.
