D.520 AMS Relief Project – Pt 2

January 17, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 1.2K

I am one of Vic Russell's partners in the this AMS Relief project. I'm not sure it was entirely effective, in my case...;-), I built this kit when was first released it and I remember it being a " beer & pretzel" weekend build. For whatever reason, this one fought me hammer and tong through out, but I brought it home in a week after our deadline of the Jan 12, (started the week of 10 December).

As with Vic's build this is the Dewoitine built out of the box. I added a harness to the seat from the old ProModeler Luftwaffe cockpit decal sheet. The markings are from the kit and from AeroMaster D.520 Collection Pt 1 (48-094).

It depicts an aircraft assigned to GC II/7, 2nd Esc in Algeria in July-August 1940. I used Polly Scale French colors for everything but the brown which is LifeColor chocolate. I decided to show the a/c as being used hard in a grungy environment, using Mig Pigments, pastels, and dry brushed aluminum. It came out more intense than I wanted, as I'd expected to lose a lot of the pastels etc when I sealed it, probably didn't help that all my weathering lately has been on armor.

BTW I just noticed I'd forgotten to paint the tail wheel tire when I took the pictures Oh well you'll have that..lol

  1. Very nice work! That's not one I see very often.

  2. Looks positively pristine when compared to some of the heavily weathered and grungified models that we often see. Nice work.

  3. Quite nice as I said before. Had you not mentioned the tail wheel, no one would have noticed, just looks dirty/dusty.

  4. Love the weathering and paint job. Great effort!

  5. Well done! I'm number 3 in this group better known as "Tail-End-Charlie" I hope to be done & have mine posted soon.

  6. Ah, photos let us down, and so the model is very good!
