Air Show Photos

April 28, 2013 · in Show Reports · · 8 · 1.9K

Here are some photos I took today at the Pacific Coast Dream Machines show in Half Moon Bay, California. This is a great event for the local community as Proceeds benefit the Coastside Adult Day Health Center. I live right down the road from this event so not only do I get to see the show, but I am lucky enough to be able to see the many vintage cars driving around town in addition to seeing the War birds and civilian aircraft fly by my house all of the time. In particular, Eddie Andreini, Sr. routinely buzzes the air port in his one of his two Yak-9Us or his Vintage D (yellow/black checkered nose) or modified Stearman. This year the weather was beautiful and so were the many types of airplanes that flew in. This year's show included, amongst others, six P-51 Mustangs (4 D's, 1 K(?) and 1 H). The sound of six Merlin's firing up and buzzing the field is an AWSOME thing to hear and see! A also flew in. This AC flew in the Berlin airlift and is currently used to spray surfactants on oil spills and was used in the recent Gulf oil spill cleanup.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Cheers,

Erich

Nice pictures Erich. A co-worker of mine is Eddie Andreini's nephew, still trying to find a way to get a ride in one of his toys LOL! Thanks for the pictures.

  2. Last time I was in Half Moon Bay, I remember taking off downwind so as to not take off into the oncoming fog bank! Does John Herlihy still have his operation there at the north end? That was where they restored the F4U-7 that used to fly in the Suez markings found six layers down in the paint, before it was purchased by Tillamook Air Museum and "corrected" with a USMC Korea-era scheme since "the Corsair is an American airplane," in the words of the i****s who run that place.

    Nice pix, BTW.

  3. I see Nanny doesn't like "i****s." Does the more appropriate "morons" work?

  4. I've heard of the name John Herlihy, but don't know if he still has anything going on at the airport...I have sources who could confirm this and will get back to you with that info. As far as the Corsair goes...Suez Markings all the way!
