1/48 Monogram A-26C Invader

June 12, 2013 · in Aviation · · 11 · 5.1K

It's finished! Kit built OOB, decals from Aeromaster Marauding Invaders Part 3 sheet. This one only took 11 years to finish, hope the next one doesn't take that long...

I didn't get quite enough weight into her, so she tail sits. It won't be an issue for me since I plan to mount her on a base with a figure or two to give some scale.

    Great Invader Jamie.

  4. Looking good, I'd love to see the final display with the figures.

  5. Thanks, everyone! I learned a lot building this one.

Found a picture of the real thing and posted it here. Is it me, or does it look like the gunner's glass has been painted over on this airplane?

Yeah it does, it also looks like the upper turret is missing too! Wasn,t there a dorsal turrent on the Invader?

      • Gregor, there was on the bombers. Some of them also had ventral turrets. The markings are for an RB-26C (363rd TRW), which was the recon version of the Invader, on which the dorsal turrets were removed. The model had been long built by the time I found the decals, and I didn't feel like tearing it apart just to remove the turret. I really liked those markings (they add a little color to an otherwise bland scheme), so I fudged a little bit. The bomb bay was still utilized to carry the photoflash bombs used to illuminate targets on night missions.

I'm guessing, since the gunner wasn't carried on these airplanes, that the glass was painted over to reduce any unwanted reflections?

That sounds about right Jamie. Dont blame you about not wanting to go back to remove the turret. It looks cool the way you finished it 🙂

  6. Cool Invader Jaime! I love the black paint work; you nailed it dude.

  8. Nice job on a great old kit- I like the tail markings- the checkerboard livens up the all black aircraft !
