1st finished since the move

June 16, 2013 · in Armor · · 10 · 1.2K

This is the 155 M198 howitzer #02306, nice kit, goes together well, no real problems. Kit has some photo etch, no metal barrel though. Built OOB, painted with Vallejo 70.819 IRAQUI SAND. First time using their paint and first time using an oil wash for the weathering.
This is the first kit completed since moving from Michigan to North Carolina. Let me know what you think.

  1. Always good to see some armor. Your second shot really shows the wash. Hoping Michigan will be good to you.

  2. Nice weathering/detail...I like it.

  3. beautiful gun...love guns...i never could get valley joe to spray...all ways clogged the airbrush but i used white cap which i think is for brushing only...hard to cut also...any tips...the wash is beautiful...is it one heavy or many light

    • One heavy coat then rubbed off. Coat of future floor wax on top of the color coat first. The oil wash was thinned with turpenoid.
I thinned the paint with windex, gotta make sure yo prime the plastic first, I used flat white enamel and that worked good
      Glad you liked it

  4. Well done Steve and welcome to N. Carolina, I say that because my brother lives there after serving in the Marine Corp and fell in love with the region and met a great gal. Hard to leave sunny So Cal weather, so it has to be a great place to live. I visited, and you know it was hard to come back home myself. Enjoy your new home, and hope to see some more projects.

  5. Nice, always cool to see a big gun! Congrats on the move, I recently moved to Seattle, but haven't finished anything yet and now I am moving from a rental into our own home so more delays! That's ok I get my first real man cave out of the deal I am pretty excited! Anyway once again great job and here's to many more in your new home!

  6. Nice Gun!

I am moving to South Carolina in a few weeks , Looking forward to moving to a very active modelling region, Will we see the gun at a show?

    • Not sure about clubs/groups down this way at all, hopping someone out there can clue me in. Also need to find good hobby shops in this neck of the woods, I've located the Hobby Towns and Hobby Lobby's close by but I hope theres better (?)
I dont think the guns contest quality but a might drag it along if I can find some where to go.
