Hasegawa 1/48 F-4B VMFA-122

July 29, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 2.5K

Hi All,

I am glad to finally finish this particular kit. It sat partially assembled for years with a Black Box cockpit, and decals ready to go. I added Seamless S*****s intakes, Cobra Co Exhausts, and used an Eduard canopy etch set for the canopy hooks and other details. In adding the exhausts I realized the kit exhaust area did not match up with pictures, so I reengineered the area with some plastic card and feel really pleased with it.

I studied quite a few pictures to make sure the open canopies had the right angles. The retractable boarding ladder that is not easy to find photo references on, is one part of the build I am really happy with.

I chose to avoid weathering, but I may go back and dirty up the exhausts a bit.

I used the fox one decals sheet for USMC Phantoms, loved the 3 HIPEG gun pods- an arrangement also used by some USAF F4E's in VietNam- but with different pods.

  1. gorgeous man

  2. I've never seen anything but centerline gunpods...never under-wing mounts. Thanks for sharing the info and the nice build.

  3. Really nice, clean build, Dan.

  4. Great job on an oldie...that Hasegawa kit has been around for awhile, but your work makes it look like a new release.

That A2A loadout would wreak havoc with the "Gomers", that's for sure!

  5. Very nice model, Dan, good attention to details and a great finish.
