R6D VR-21 Barbers Point, Hawaii 1963 -1966

July 15, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 2.4K

This aircraft was flown by a very good friend of mine when he was assigned to VR-21 in Hawaii. Aside from various transport duties it was used as transportation for two Admirals. One was Cincpac and the other was Cincpacflt. Other duties were to deliver and retrive nuclear weapons from the Pacific Fleet and tansport them to NAS Alameda, then to Concord weapons depot. The designation of this aircraft changed during my friends time, from R6D to the USAF designation of C-118A. I built this for my friend and gave it to him as a thanks for his service to our Country and a shot of excellent Scotch.

  1. Excellent! I seem to be attracted more to the non-combatant equipment of the different branches of the military. What scale & what kit?

  2. I do like a nice R-6D. I have that 72 scaly one that is being transferred from an air liner to a nice USN R-6D some time in the future.

  3. and yours looks outstanding.

  4. I know nothing about the prototype, but your model looks very nice.

  5. looks like the c-131...very nice job

  6. My Dad flew that! LCMDR Les Maxwell
