Blackpool (U.K.) airshow 11.08.13.

August 11, 2013 · in Show Reports · · 9 · 1.5K

I thought I would share these pictures with you, I know they aren't that great but I still think they are worth a look. How many times do you get to see one off the only two flying Lancasters in the world as well as the worlds only flying Vulcan. We also saw a Hawker Hunter ,"miss demeanour", a Hawker Seafury ,the amazing Red Arrows and the awesome Typhoon Euro fighter.

The last shot is just along the sea front at Blackpool which I believe is similar to Coney Island N.Y.,Seamus may be able to confirm that, hope you all enjoy the pictures.

  1. I remember seeing a Vulcan at the Abbotsford, Canada, show in 1977. The pilot did a wings-vertical, max-afterburner 360 at an altitude of 1,000 feet AGL, inside the airport perimeter. Everyone else with an airplane at the show felt they were sort of "et cetera" after that.

Would dearly love to see a Lancaster, as well that Swordfish.

    • Tom, the last time I saw a Vulcan was about in 1990 at a local airshow when laws governing these events were much different , I remember the aircraft came in at about 100 ft (really, i'm not exaggerating) and flew right over the crowd, the noise was staggering, you could physically feel the noise and energy in your chest cavity , as for the Lancaster , I don't mind admitting to the national pride seeing it brought a lump to my throat.

      • Yes, when that Vulcan at Abbotsford did its routine, the sound of those four Olympus engines (which I now recall were at max power, not afterburner, they don't have an afterburner) was truly the first time I have ever felt sound. Not even being in the front row of a Cream concert could do that!

  2. Great shots. I'm lucky enough to have a static Lancaster close by. It's an RCAF Mk X.

  3. Looks like you had a great day. Thanks for sharing-it must have been awesome.

  4. You went to Blackpook, and didn't take any pictures of the trams?

  5. I wish I'd seen the show at Blackpool.
