M5A1 Stuart Tamiya 1/35 kit

October 23, 2013 · in Armor · · 12 · 2.6K

This was my first armour kit when I started out a while ago. It is OOB with no experimenting. It is hand painted with Model Master acrylic olive drab and black tracks. There is no weathering other than a black wash and some highlighting. Not perfect by any means but good enough that I moved on to another kit afterwards. I was on sick leave from an operation and found it very therapuetic to work on this.

  1. I actually agree with you, in a sense that model building can be therapeutic, it takes the fokus off of other negative distractions.

I started out at modeling to keep me busy, as I am currently a full time student and found it therapeutic in the sense that it took my focus of the worries of life.

Futhermore, hope the op went well. I like the look of your tank - I'm more into planes, and found that modelling is alo art more so than not. Perhaps I should try a tank myself - I suppose ur into the WW's?

The opportunity of being able to create and being creative is quite a stimulant and soother. Exciting as well!

    Greetings Leon

  2. Nice smooth paint, really cant tell it's brush painted

    • Thanks Steven. I plan to build more but slow going. Will post as I do.

    • I was really surprised when you said it was Model Master acrylic, which I think is among the worst paint there is, and I have never had success like you had with a brush. Really nice work!

      • Hi Tom, it was about 5 - 6 thin coats to finish it. The lesson I learned is that I need to learn how to use an airbrush. It did come out smoother than I was expecting. Thanks for your comments.

  3. Nothing wrong with brush painting on armoured vehicles, Alan, it's a fighting vehicle, not a limo! Good photography, too.

    • Purchased an airbrush a while ago but haven't started using it. Using spray cans also but can't seem to avoid too heavy a coat of paint. Practising but haven't succeeded yet.

  4. I can only echo the sentiments of George and Steven, Alan...very nice work all-around. I like it!

  5. Who doesn't love the Stuart? Nice work, Alan.

  6. My kind of build! Can hang right in there with the more expensive and over-engineered AFV Club Stuart. Well done sir.

  7. Alan,
Although I like to stick to airplanes I also occasionally dabble in some armour and I definitely appreciate looking at armour models. The Stuart, for some unknown reason, is one of my favorites. Your model is a joy to look at. If this was your first armour model you scored a 10 on this one. I think it looks great. I read your bio and I hope all is well with you now after your operation. I think you may be the only person I know that has more kits than finished models. Amazing!

  8. Just wanted to thank everyone for looking and offering comments. It was a real confidence boost to show a model for the first time in public. I am enjoying building and will keep at it.
