P-40N flown by Lt. Joel B. Paris III, 7th FS, 49th FG

October 16, 2013 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.2K

Lt Paris was born in Atlanta, GA in 1922. He entered the USAAF in March of 1942 He completed flight training and was commissioned in February of 1943. He was sent to the SWPA and was assigned to the 7th FS, of the 49th FG. He is credited with 9 confirmed victories. He remained in the service following the War and retired fro the USAF as a full Colonel.

The kit is from and I found it to be very good. OOB it is good but if one wanted to go hog wild on the P-40N there are a number of after market products. I built it OOB and used Aero Master decals.

  1. Nicely done Frank. I looked at your latter posting before this one or I would have known the theater of operation.

  2. Great job, Frank. It has "the look"! Something we strive for, but don't always get. You nailed it !

  3. Really nice, Frank.

  4. Not a complaint, Frank, because this is a really nice model, but for others considering doing 49th FG P-40s, the P-40N was never painted in this camouflage. As close as it got was having the medium green blotches on the leading and trailing edges of the wings and horizontal stab. This was another case of Errormaster Strikes Again. Actually, more a case of Errormaster Believes the Hex-Spurtz. Based on one of those "factoids" often found in earlier Squadron "In Action" books. (Like the one about the Sea Hurricane IIc of 824 Squadron being all white, with four photographs they based that statement on clearly showing the white was applied over the upper surfaces of a standard FAA camouflaged Sea Hurricane, with Sky lowers, being there in the book for anyone with eyes connected to their brain to see.)

  5. Well done kit. The panel lines are nicely executed by Mauve. Love the paint job.

  6. Tom may be correct in his observation but the build is clean and a pleasure to look at. He's right about the old Squadron books, some of the photos in their ship profiles leave a lot open to "best guess".
