1/48 Otaki F4U-1A Vought Corsair (FAA)

November 6, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 3.3K

The is probably one of the oldest Corsair models in my small collection. While there isn't a whole lot of detail, it is a very simple, and sturdy, build. The decal sheet offers 3 options. Once again, trying to vary the schemes/colors on my "Corsair" shelf, I opted for the Brit FAA version. There was a time Otaki was "state of the art", long ago. Now their kits are just a fun build that doesn't look too bad when finished.

  1. Fleet Air Arm now Joe. Again what a lively build and finish.
DG over Dgrey, Duck egg blue under sides as well.
    Like it mate.

  2. Looks nice. The actual colors for FAA Corsair IIs (which were all built by Goodyear) are "equivalent" cors: Neutral Grey and Olive Drab for Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey, and Light Sky Grey for Sky. Just for further use in the future.

Looking at this model and the Hobbycraft Corsair you did and the one Craig did, I notice both the HC Corsairs have no dihedral on the outer wing. I guess that is a kit fault?

  3. Wow, a Corsair extravaganza this week! Nice build Joe, and you had fun with an older kit, that's what it's all about, Model building is FUN...

  4. Nice build Joe, but I gotta say the attitude on the aux tank sure looks weird. Always have like the Otaki kits.

  5. Looks like you done another good job of an old kit, and you've enjoyed doing it, that's what it's all about.

  6. Joe,
Nice build. Overall the Otaki kits of all of their aircraft a pretty good as to outline are very good. For their age and simplicity, and price, you have a hard time beating them. I like this .

  7. Great build Joe! I enjoy these old Otaki kits as well. I have a couple of their Bf-109 G's in the stash, and after seeing your Corsair I may pull one of them out for my next build.
