Stringbag Mk 1 Floatplane

November 19, 2013 · in Aviation · · 6 · 1.7K

Continuing the recent occasional Fleet Air Arm theme, here are a few photos of 's , c1940, with a record photo of the actual aircraft.

The rigging is from a Tamiya detail-up etch set. The subject is often modelled with wings folded back, but I prefer the 'up n' at 'em' look.

  1. A lovely job on the Stringbag Rob, although I am not in to bi-plane building, the rigging puts me off.
It is nice to see one built and painted so carefully.
    Well done .

  2. I agree wholeheartedly with Simon...a beautiful build, but not my[string]bag. 🙂

  3. Very nice, Rob. I have been enjoying your FAA theme. Nice to see it matched with a photo.

  4. Rob,
Beautifully done. You did a fine job on a great kit. I have built three of these and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The way it is engineered, rigging included, makes it a joy to build. Almost a "box shaker". Put a little glue in it and shake the box. Actually it is not that simple, it requires skill to make it a gorgeous model. Your skill in making this a superb model is evident.

    • Cheers Frank. Yes a lovely kit. I was in a building phase where I was concentrating on float planes (Arado, Mitsubishi F2, Stranraer. Catalina, and the Swordfish) - I think they have a graceful quality that adds a new dimension to a subject.

  5. I like the model and the pictures, Rob, good job!
