Battle at the Ruins
I used the theme of Monte Casino for this diorama and with the old Italeri Building ruins and Church ruins I came up with the defenders finding better cover after the bombings of the mountain. The DML figures are from older kits and offered the best options for the detailing. I filled in the backs of the building with Plaster of Paris to get a more 3-D effect and used lots of broken plaster and pebbles for the rubble. I used old clear styrene snapped off into shards for the broken glass and whatever else I could find to show off ruined buildings. It was a terrible cost to fight for that mountain in lost art and life, I only wanted to show that no one side was right or wrong and only wanted what they believed was an end to the fighting. Few people realize that the fight for Italy was foot by foot and the Germans defended the country as it was in fact the under-belly of Germany. Field Marshal Keslering was bound by honor to defend Italy to the last man. And Rome was declared an open city by the Germans on June 4, 1944. In doing the Allies did not bomb
the city.

Hi John. Out of the three dios that you posted, I have to say that I like this one the best. As Al said, "simple, but effective". The few figures and the ruins were all that was needed to give some drama to the scene.
