Hasegawa 1/32 FW 190 D-9 Jabo

January 6, 2014 · in Aviation · · 12 · 0.8K

I have an ongoing and serious infatuation with a few different planes from the Luftwaffe 190s and 109s, He 111 and He 219 etc.etc.etc. I found this on eBay for a real nice price, almost half the retail so I jumped on it. There are few differences in the kits of one model of aircraft and the other but this one has a newly molded fuselage, an engine plug since there isn't an engine in the kit, a choice between two canopies and a resin bomb.

So in order to go the route of not building OOB I chose a set of decals from Eagle Editions and attempted to replicate Hans Dortenmann's red 1. From what I gather this plane has quite the history with Hans and had changed squadrons a few times. I suppose that this is the last 190 that he flew. I only say that because I really didn't do too much research in his history.

Well, here it is, although I should have really paid attention to some details as I got close to completion. I hope that you like it.

  1. Good on you, Paul. Nicely executed and finished build. While I strongly believe in supporting my local hobby shop, I still find that ebay cannot be beat for certain things. I especially like when a new and more modern engineered kit is released, the much older counterpart ends up on ebay at a greatly reduced price. I remember when PCM released their 1/32 Hurricane, the old Revell eight gun 1/32 Hurricanes could be had for a song on ebay. I got an original release Revell Hurricane still in shrinkwrap with about $100.00 worth of resin aftermarket parts for $30.00. Wouldn't you know that for my birthday, I received a PCM Hurricane. So which one am I going to build? The good 'ol Revell, of course.

  2. Nowt wrong with an Ebay bargain, especially if it turns out like yours Paul.
    Nice one sir.
    Well done.

  3. I definitely want to hold on to the PCM Hurricane as I will get around to building it, but for now, I really look foward to the challenge of making a silk purse from a sow's ear. Not that the Revell kit is all that bad to begin with.

  4. Nice Paul. I have used eBay a lot for books but haven't tried models. There is a store in Toronto that I like a lot and go there often. Also, maybe it's because I live in Canada, but the shipping costs are usually more than the price of the model. That plus currency conversion usually makes more sense to shop local. Congratulations on finding a deal and the finished model looks great.

  5. Nicely done Paul, there's just "something about Dora" I have the same 190/109 bug that you have!

  6. Very nice , Paul. Gotta love those 190's.
