Hellcat Mk 2. Eduard 1/48 scale.

March 4, 2014 · in Aviation · · 33 · 1.5K

Well here is. I won this kit on the random draw last year and I finally finished.
It has been a fun build but not without a problem or two, down to me rather than the kit itself. See the WIP for details.

Painted in the F.A.A. colours, this aircraft was the personal mount of Sub. Lieutenant W.M.C. Foster, flying off H.M.S. Indomitable 1844 Sqn, 1945.
I would like to take this moment to thank all those who gave me the encouragement to build her.

All comments and criticisms welcome.

  1. It turned out to be a beauty, Simon ! Certainly not the easiest paint job to do, it looks great. I also enjoy all the WIP reports, which have been a welcomed help while building mine. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

  2. Simon, your Hellcat looks great, I love the FAA scheme very nicely done Sir.

    • Thank you Andrew. It took a while to build due to other things going on but I am glad it is built so that I can concentrate on other builds including the D.Day one.

  3. Looks great, Simon! It's always nice to see US Navy types in different than blue schemes, and you did this one good, mate!

    • Thank you Jaime. It was fun to build and not too bad to paint either. I am the first to admit that I am not the best masker but this time I had no paint creeping plus I took my time.

  4. Nice work, Simon...that scheme looks great. Can't go wrong with Eduard it seems.

  5. Well you finished it Simon & it turned out great but like they say "What's next?"

  6. Nice clean build there, Simon, it's good to see the finished model as I've been following your WIP. It's always satisfying to complete a project like this, it builds up your confidence to tackle the next subject.

  7. Simes ! I love it , really good job and well worth all the effort, that front on shot looks great,I think this is your best build so far.
    Cheers N.

  8. Simon,
The only thing I can add is to say this is outstanding. Your WIP has become a stunning beauty.

  9. very nice job Simon...glad to see that done...and great scheme...proud of you

  10. Hi Simon, I really think that FAA color schemes on Hellcats and Corsairs are uniquely different to their USN cousins in Blue- Great job!

  11. Nice one Simon I know from experience Eduard stuff isn't always an easy build but it looks like you pulled it off beautifully it looks great

    • Cheers Mark, the kit it self went together quite well but was a bit fiddley especially the undercarriage but patience was a vertue and it all fitted well.

  12. Well done Simon. Well worth all your hard graft. An impressive Hellcat.

  13. Thank you Gregor,I am learning a bit more patience and care when building helps the finished product.

  14. Very nice Simon! It's fun to see a Hellcat in something other than blue. You do nice work man.

  15. Thank you Gary, as I stated I built it OOB and that was the colour scheme.
I hope that I can improve with age, like a fine whiskey or wine.

  16. Nice clean build, unusual paint scheme for that aircraft. Always enjoy a popular plane with a different paint (and decal) application.

  17. Cheers Mike, the paint scheme was the one denoted in the instructions.
I cocked up one of the decals but I did not have any replacements. The starboard Royal Navy decal just to the lef of the roundel and bar.

    • Thanks Tony, I toed my best on this one and it turned out ok. As for the pics, I really need to sort out a photo booth of some description but I have a few ideas in the pipeline .
