48th AH-1 by Tamiya

August 28, 2014 in Aviation

Forgive the repost, but some of you may not have seen it the first time around, so I wanted jump in on the proverbial ‘bandwagon’ of the Skyraider “theme”.
As a rule, I build “generic” representations and don’t attempt to replicate an actual aircraft. This is one of the exceptions.
Some of you may be familiar with the series, “Dogfights” which [still] airs on the Military Channel. One of my favorites is entitled “Gun Kills of Vietnam”. Lt. Clinton Johnson’s Skyraider (pictured) and his wingman were credited with downing a Mig-17 with their 20mm cannon early in the conflict in 1965.
I acquired the correct set of markings and tried to depict the aircraft as was featured in that particular episode. I opted for a “clean” configuration (hence the stand) and it’s displayed with my other 48th scale Navy airplanes.
Again, I apologize for posting the model for a second time, and trust that it doesn’t violate any “forum rules”.
