’78 Season Brabham BT-46

August 23, 2014 · in Automotive · · 17 · 2K

This Car was powered by a Alfa-Romeo 12 cylinder engine. The team was owned by Bernie Eccelstone before he bought F1, designed by Gordon Murray & the #1 car was driven by Niki Lauda . John Watson campaigned the second team car.

The model is a 1/20th scale built 100% OOB back in the days before I caught AMD.

The body paint work is actually the unpainted kit plastic brush coated with Future. Everything else on the body has been done with the kit decals.

Hadn't posted in a while so I thought I'd throw this at you.

Hope you enjoy it.

  1. Exquisite job on that engine, Al...and thanks for "throwing it at us" this morning!

  2. Great looking Al…..I sure loved those 20th scale race cars the offered.

  3. Sweet Al, just decals and clear .
    Like the engine too.
    Well done mate.

  4. Al,
That is beautiful, and an interesting story about the finish. Thanks!

  5. I like it as well, didn't know you guys were keen on F1 in the U.S.

    • Can't really say F1 interest is at a high level over here. I've followed it since "Wide World of Sports" carried a few taped races over here back in the sixties. All the races are carried here now so it must be popular enough that the network is willing to pay Bernie the undoubtably high fee.

  6. Very nice, Al! Niki Lauda was one of my favorite F1 drivers back then...

  9. Nice work, Al. Like the engine details! I'm anxious to get back into my stash of F1 cars when I move to a bigger place and out of company housing at the end of the year.

  10. Nice one Al, always like the "classic F1" machines.

  11. Beautiful, Al. Love those F-1 cars, any era !

  13. Another classic Gordon Murray design, it looks gorgeous, your method of creating the red finish has worked a treat, and the engine detailing really lifts the model into the top class. Excellent job! It's just a shame that the marriage of Gordon Murray's design and the Alfa Romeo engine was not more successful...

  14. Thanks for all your positive comments.

  15. Great engine detail, sweet workmanship!

  16. Al,
    This is stunning.
