Spitfire Mk.IXe (AZ 1/72)

August 28, 2014 in Aviation

I always wanted to make Spitfire in an unusual painting scheme. So, this one for unpainted look of this famous warbird.

This is a new AZmodel kit in HQT (high quality technology). And I can say that plastic really looks very good and if you don’t know about AZ you can’t say that you’re looking at short run kit. But anyway it’s a short run – sanding and filling for every part (ok, not for every part, but for most of them). But I can’t say that this is a “bad” kit – it’s a high quality short run.

Geometry of this kit is pretty accurate. Kit contains one resin part – cockpit floor. I don’t now why, because it’s invisible due to small scale and small Spitfire’s canopy.

Painted with Alclad II, Mr.Hobby and Vallejo paints. Weathered with oils, pigments by Tamiya and Vallejo.

Painting scheme – IAF, during 1950s.

Hope you’ll like it.

  1. Great job Dmitry, such a cute little gem you have build there!

  2. Nice work, Dmitry….I, too, am at a loss as to why they would include a resin cockpit floor – doesn’t make much sense, does it?

  3. Great work, Dmitry. If you had said it was 1/48, I’d have believed without a doubt. Great work of photography, too.

  4. Very nicely done Dmitry. Great NMF to her as well.
    Well done sir.

  5. As usual for you Dmitry a fine build.

  6. Well done Dmitry, beautiful finish, interesting marking.

  7. Well done Dmitry, beautiful finish, interesting markings.

  8. How to compare this with Thomas’ last posting of his 1/32 models?! Dmitry, this is beautiful, and in 1/72, equally incredible.

  9. Great build. Just have to love those clipped wing Spits! Well done Dimitry!

  10. Brilliant Dmitry. I have never built AZ models but note they have issued a batch of 2 seat 1/72 Spitfires, which look really good.

  11. A very nice Spit, very well done. These small kits in 1/72 are not too
easy to do, but your result is great. Great NMF and the markings are
    nice too. 🙂
AZ Models have a great range of interesting kits, time to get one of these.
