EuroMilitaire 2014 – Part One

September 20, 2014 · in Show Reports · · 5 · 3.4K

EuroMilitaire is one of the UK's premier modelling exhibitions, taking place in September in Folkestone, Kent. The two-day event, now in its 29th year, attracts upwards of 3000 visitors.

Folkestone's proximity to Dover, with the latter's links to the Channel Tunnel and Continental ferries, ensures wide participation from European modellers as well as British enthusiasts. There are 32 Competition Classes, and it's not unusual to see some models on display at EuroMilitaire also displayed a few weeks later at ScaleModelWorld in Telford.

I attended with a few members of our club on Saturday – a six-hour roundtrip drive from Norfolk – and as you can see by the accompanying photos, there was a lot to see, and many, many trade stands on hand to tempt the modeller.

As the event's name implies, there was originally a weighting towards military subjects, but over the years it has expanded to included figure modelling and dioramas. I took 200 photos, which I'm uploading into four files here.

Happy Modelling!

  1. Thanks for posting these - I am often in awe of the skills of figure painters, and this batch was no exception. That golf scene was particularly interesting - never seen one like that before. I'm looking forward to the next batch!

  2. Thanks Rob, I went through the lot. Some real artistry on display.
    Very cool.

    • One of the pieces - a fantasy vehicle with a clockwork mechanism for the pilot controls, and backlit with blue LED lights in the 'cockpit' - was brought in by a Chinese lady directly from landing at Gatwick. It's remarkable to see the lengths people go to to be part of the show, but then the same can be said for ScaleModelWorld in November, which is much bigger than EuroMilitaire.

  3. There is some amazing work displayed there. Thanks for sharing these!
