Camouflage & Markings – Some more early Huricane I profiles

November 26, 2014 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2.3K

Following the good reception of Martin's editorial article using some of my early profiles and the requests for more, here is another selection, from July 1938 to late 1940.

111 Squadron was the very first squadron to get them in 1938 and their markings were quite different at that time, with the squadron number on the fuselage, official badge on the fin and A1 type roundels with yellow outlines on the fuselage and above the wings. The early production Hurricanes were fitted with Watts two-blade, fixed pitch propellers, replacement of which with the de Havilland and Rotol ones did not occur until during the Battle of France. These very early Hurricanes did not have the armoured windscreen on the cockpit. Also absent on 111's aircraft was the ventral fin under the rear fuselage.
