Hasegawa 1/48 F6F-5

November 15, 2014 · in Aviation · · 40 · 2.7K

I enjoyed this build and glad it's finally done. I used a Quickboost engine (wired and pushrods added), the Obscureco cowl, CMK flaps, Eduard etch and a True Details resin seat in the cockpit. Paint is MM Glossy Sea Blue with a Polly Scale semi-gloss overcoat. Decals are from the scrap box, with assistance from Jim Sullivan who also cropped the photos you see. Comments welcome. Clark

  1. Outstanding! I like what you did with this Hellcat. She looks menacing in that all sea blue scheme. Well done!

  2. Looks fantastic , like the paint scheme.
    Well done sir.

  3. Nice build, Eugene. Would like to see more of the engine detailing. Any other photos?

  4. Great Hellcat. Last Hellcat I built was the old Monogram kit with folding wings & moveable landing gear.
I would also like to see a close up of your engine. I' m using the QB R-1830 on my H-75 & have done the pushrods but am trying to figure out how to get the wiring in there.
    Once again, very nice build.

    • Hi Al. The old Monogram kit was a classic. One thing about the wiring...you're trying to get a representation of the wires in this scale so you cannot become pre-occupied with exact detail. I found some good photos on the net and help from fellow modelers.

  5. Hello Clark...Your F6F-5 Hellcat came out quite nice. There's just something about a GSB paint scheme with all the white lettering that just jumps out and grabs you. Good job on paint, decals and the exhaust staining. A fine build and a good choice of markings.

  6. Nice build Clark. I like the look of the finish, very hard to achieve with dark sea blue. Your photos are terrific as well.

  7. Hi Eugene,

    Superb job, perfect paint, congratulations

    Eric

  8. Beautiful Hellcat Eugene. I'd like to see some close up of the engine too.

  9. Outstanding build, Eugene...and a good job on the photos, Jim. Nicely done all around!

  10. Looking very smart Eugene

  11. Very nice result!

  12. now thats a great looking Hellcat!

  13. Just what all the others said! Great Hellcat

  14. Nice one Eugene - I agree with everyone about the great job on the GSB finish - and will add that I like the effect you achieved with the exhaust stains as well - great work!

  15. excellent job with the Hellcat

  16. A couple of other notes. I did use the rear section of a Squadron vac canopy. The kit section is too tight to show in the open position. Also, the larger numbers are supposed to be segmented or stencil type but at the time I could not find anything. I have since located several sheets over on Evil Bay.

  17. Eugene, holly molly is that great! I am right clicking the lot.
    Really nice modeling.

  18. Very crisp and clear photographs of a nicely finished model, Eugene, you obviously put a lot of extra work into this one, but we can see you enjoyed it.

  19. Great Hellcat Eugene, as well the presentation, well done !

  20. What is there left to say? Just beautiful Eugene. Your paint job is superb.
