December 11, 2014 · in Aviation · · 26 · 1.7K

HI guys

this is currently on YouTube, the inbox review and the final review, I really enjoyed this kit and with very little mishaps and filler. BTW this is the old 1970's kit!

  1. Lovely Zero there Michael.
    Well done mate.

  2. Nice! Is that the old tool Tamiya Zero?

  3. Hi Mike, it's a lovely Zero, I think that it's this kind of pale grey camo that best suits the subject.

For info, you can also embed Youtube clips in your posts, just pick the "share this" link from YT, paste into your post here and the vid should appear embedded in your article.

  4. Thanks, I agree about the paint - took a while to find the right kind of paint

Okay thanks about the help about YouTube

  5. Nice build, Michael. I usually think of aotake colour as 'green bamboo' whereas yours tends towards the bluer range. What product did you use? Just curious.

    • I used Tamiya paint. This was the problem, I originally was going to use XF-76, then realising it was too green - After research I found the true colour of XF-12, have to admit was the right colour 🙂

      • For the record, I can recommend White Ensign Model's aotake applied over aluminium base. It has that greeny-blue mix that hangs right in the centre of the colour palette.

  6. Good looking Zero Michael. I like your rendition of what to me is the traditional Zero color scheme.

  7. Wow! Outstanding work Michael! You've proven my conclusion about this kit. It's plenty good for any build!
I got rid of my more detailed Hasegawa kits and just kept this old Tamiya ones.
    Again, GREAT work!

    Bo

  8. Very nice job on that older kit Michael - the canopy framing is particularly well-done imho. Please post the you tube link when you can - would love to see that as well!

  9. Great Zero Michael. Good work on an older but still nice kit.

  10. Michael, Bravo!

I like the OLD Tamiya Zeroes almost better than the newer, real expensive ones. All 3 of them, the Hamp and the Zeke 52 B/C (?).

The only shortcoming is that D--n decal instrument panel, which is remedied by aftermarket or scratchbuilding. Add some seat belts, voila!

The $$$ you save can go to remedy those nitpicks.

Plus, you get figures! Pilots! Wildly waving groundcrew in the Hamp and late Zero! Banzai!

Hey, I'm a fan! No connection with Tamiya.

    Nice job on the figure!

    Regards,

    Bernie

    • I'd like to have those figures for that - could have made a nice IJN aircraft carrier deck diorama. However I didnt want to use aftermarket stuff like photoetch because it looked good out of box - however I did my own scratchbuilding (although you cant see some of them!). I added some throttles/leavers and masking tape for seat belts

  11. Really nice Zero Michael. That's the kit I chose when I returned to the hobby in 1994. Still a nice kit.

  12. Nice work Michael, she looks great!

  13. great looking zero...fine old kit

  14. Classic build of a classic kit, Michael (if only I could get U-tube in China!)
