Pro Modeller's 1/48 scale Me 410 Hornisse

February 12, 2015 · in Aviation · · 24 · 3.7K

Built back in 2004 or thereabouts, this was 'state of the art' then & remains a superlative kit in 2015. I recall a trouble-free build for the most part & my Hornisse has been on display ever since. I needed a break from my current build (Hasegawa's F/A 18 Hornet) which has been on the table for far too long, so I decided that this Hornet was better than none & took some fresh pictures. Hope you enjoy them.

  1. Tony, that's a beautiful model of one of the best looking of the twin piston engined fighters. As usual your finishing is perfect.

  2. Brilliant work Tony. Love it.

  3. Nicely finished and photographed, sir...I like it.

  4. Well finished Tony, looks great.
    Thanks for posting.

  5. Nice one. Love the 410.

  6. Beautifully finished model.

  7. Very nice job - great work with the mottling camo. thanks for posting it!

  8. The Hornisse is by far my favourite Luftwaffe aircraft. You did an awesome job on this model! Well done as usual !

  9. Great paintjob!
Did you do the mottle camo free hand or did you use masks?

    • Hi Ulf, Thanks for your comments. Re. the mottle: I have always done it freehand with quite a thin paint mix & built the mottle up if needed. If it becomes too heavy I lightly resprat the background colour as necessary. The paint in this instance was Gunze, thinned with Windex.

  10. I was always impressed by the barbette guns, which I hear didn't work all that well. Look good, though.
    Neat airplane!
    Looks really good.

  11. Tony, you really nailed it. Nice job.

  12. By the way, Tony...after taking a closer look, something I noticed the 2nd time around:

What's the significance of the sabot on the nacelles?

    • Hi Craig. The sabot is the squadron emblem & I'm guessing here but the derivation of the term saboteur apparently comes from the early days of industrialisation when angry French workers threw their sabots into the new-fangled weaving machines to destroy the wooden gear teeth. Maybe the Luftwaffe association was related to sabotaging the enemy?

  13. Its a superb build Hornisse, Tony, well done, i really enjoyed the pix.
Build this kit too, shortly after it was out, i builds up very nice but i run in trouble with the canopy parts.
The next 410 will be the Meng kit + some goodies

  14. Fantastic Tony, really good paint work and finish. Great photography as well!

  15. Tony, Great looking 410, I think you nailed the paint job. I built this kit some years back and recall that it was a really nice fitting kit with only some minor canopy hassles that were self induced due to not following the directions!
    Thanks for posting it.

  16. Nicely done. As others have stated - the camouflage/mottle air brush job is superb. You have raised the bar. Very motivate to start my Meng and Revell/Monogram kits. A beautiful, yet sinister looking aircraft the 410. Thank you for sharing.

  17. I'm glad you took a break and posted these pictures, Tony, it looks terrific, obviously a classic kit built and painted by an expert.

  18. Beautiful 410! I have this kit in the stash, and I wish mine would look that good when done. Thanks for the inspiration!

  19. Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Much appreciated & now it's back to the F 18...

  20. Tony,
In my opinion this is one of the best looking airplanes and one of my favorites. You have done it justice with this superb piece of master workmanship
