Tamiya T-34 1/48 scale “refurbished”

February 28, 2015 in Armor

Hi and good evening, we made today some pix from my Tamiya T-34 tank in 1/48. It was build in 2008 and was green and a tad boring. Not perfect timed the kit got a new winter whitewash
and some “fresh” weathering.
The Tamiya 1/48 AFV kits are really nice kits, i have enjoyed this relaxing build and i would not be my last Tamiya tank (the Matilda in 1/48 is high on the list)
The photo session in the bright spring sun wasn t too easy. The mixture with the new black cardboard/ sun/ and a fresh coat of white camo gave us some fits with the contrast
Hope you like this one

  1. The “restoration” AND the photos look just fine from here! Nice work.

  2. Huge fan of T-34, Bernd. This is a superb rendition of the type.

  3. Superb weathering Bernd!!! This is a beautiful rendition of a Russian classic. Nice photos!!! Ausgezeichnet!!!

  4. Thank you Morne, the T-34 is indeed a classical tank. We bought this black cardboard today, more for NMF Jets but a T-34 looks good on every backdrop

  5. Nice one, Bernd. I like it a lot.

  6. NIce build Bernd!
Yes, the Tamiya 1:48 vehicles are really nice to build. I’ve built one myself and I was very impressed with how the kit was thought out.
    Nice unkempt snow camouflage too.
    Great photography as well.

    • Thanks Ulf, did you posted your kit ? It was a very relaxing build but the “scale weight” Tamya supplied us with, was too much for my “photo studio” on the laundry drier, so we had to find another solution.

  7. Bernd,
    Your work is absolutely stunning…….

    • Thanks for your most positve comment, Frank. Tanks in 1/48 fits perfectly my 1/48 aircraft kits collection, like the 1/72 kits.
Its amazing how small a Tiger or the T-34 looks, dwarfed by a P-47

  8. Though I’m repeating what was said before: awesome photography! I like especially the angle of the homepage picture.

    • Thanks Halvar, for this pic, i had some of these propaganda pictures in mind, after all, the photo session, today went very well.
The black cardboard was intended for some NMF jets but a T-34 is a nice touch,i guess 🙂

  9. Excellent, Bernd, it looks more than just a tad interesting now, the black cardboard is a great idea, very effective.

  10. Thank you very much and good morning(?) to China
We were very glad to get this new backdrop, its way better than the previous ones but need some more photo skills

  11. Very nice – loving the snow effect

  12. Bernd:
    Really looks the part.
Where did the patriotic slogans on the turret come from? Any idea what they say? I’m guessing decals, but 1/48th armor decals seem scarce. Micro/super scale had some early on, but not many.
I’m not an armor guy, so maybe I’m missing something.

  13. Hi Bernard, thank you very much, the decals came with the kit and worked quite good, i have no idea what the slogans mean, maybe a fellow modeller from this part of the world can bring some light into this..
Why not adding some tanks in 1/48 or 72 to your collection, its fun and refreshing while no masking jobs are to do.

  14. Nicely one Bernd, well done mate 🙂

  15. Thank you very much, Gregor. It was more or less a drybrushing affair.
Maybe my Tamiya Tiger, build in the same timeframe needs an overhaul too.

  16. Looks great Bernd, a nice new white wash job.
    Some good pics there .
    Like it mate.

  17. Thank you,Simon, i am glad you like that kit, too. In its original green scheme, the tank looked quite boring after a while.
Beside that, its a graet kit and goes very well together

  18. Awesome mate! That’s a very convincing whitewash. Your weathering is superb, it’s like looking at a photograph.

  19. Superior weathering on a classic tank model!

  20. Thank you Mike, it s indeed a classical tank as well the Tamiya kits.
After the re do, the details like the weldlines on the hull and turret are much more visible.

  21. A very belated, nicely done from me too. I really like the texture with the white distemper finish.

  22. Thank you Marek, i am glad you like it. A T-34 need winter camo 🙂
