Go Modelling 2015 Vienna. Part three: Peter Plattners Models

March 10, 2015 · in Show Reports · · 8 · 5.6K

At I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Peter Plattner.
He is a great ship modeller, who also runs his own resin kits firm, Wiener Modellbau Manufaktur. https://www.wmm.at/
Not only is he a great model builder and rigger, he has also developed very good painting and weathering techniques for ships. Unlike most kit manufactures though, he realises the importance of the ships boats to the overall realism of a ship model.
His ship's boats are small models in the model.

The models depicted are:
Austrian submarine SMU 12 in 1:350. Scratchbuilt.
Austrian submarine SMU 12 in 1:72. Scratchbuilt.
USS Brooklyn in 1:350. Resin kit from YS Masterpieces.
Russian armed schooner Kroeets in 1:350. Scratchbuilt.
Austrian destroyer K.u.K. Dukla in 1:350. Scratchbuilt.

His models speak for themselves. Enjoy the pictures!

  1. Imagine being able to create such masterpieces!
Love that destroyer! Also, I have never seen an Austro-Hungarian submarine. I didn't know they had them.
    Marvelous stuff!

    • Yes, they had quite an impressive navy with battleships, cruisers, destroyers, subs and even a naval air arm. Maybe I should write an article about the Austrian-Hungarian navy. That would give me an incentive to read the two books I have about it.

  2. Wow... Very cool.

  3. Two of a kind, as it appears.

  4. I've always wanted to do a model of the Brooklyn and this makes me want to even more. And the rest was fantastic.
