Gloster Meteor III by Tamiya (1/48 scale)

April 15, 2015 · in Aviation · · 15 · 3K

My represents the first of this type to fly in Australia. Serial was originally EE427 but changed to A77-1 by the RAAF Intended for familiarisation & trials, it survived from June 1946 to February 1947 when it was somewhat 'bent' from a heavy landing. A highlight was a flight over Melbourne at 490 mph: an astonishing speed at the time. The RAAF was not to fly Meteors again until some 93 were delivered directly to 77 Squadron in Korea.

The kit build was absolutely trouble free, being ; my only misgiving being that they haven't produced a Mk.8 to go with it!

  2. Nice work Tony. the old Tamiya kit a good one.

  3. Can;t go wrong with anything by Tamiya...I like it.

  4. pretty cool, very nice work on the finish and subtle weathering!

  5. Excellent work. I haven't seen many of the Tamiya Meteors built, and IMHO it depends on the kit representing an early wartime variant raher than a much more versatile and interesting (at least in terms of available finishes if not looks) Mk. 8.

  6. Very clean build, really nice. Love the camo paint scheme, so British looking.

  7. Excellent job! Very nice paint and finish work on a classic aircraft.

  8. I'm working on my own Meteor at the moment (Dragon's 1/72 F3)...got lots of inspiration from your build. yours is a great one, i really like it. and the question is why tamiya doesn't have these meteor in 1/72? (because the dragon kit seems more like a disaster...)

  9. Tony,
Outstanding. I like everything about it. For some reason I think the Meteor was a good looking airplane. I built this model long ago and it stayed on my shelf for years until a framed picture above it decided to come off the wall and smashed it. It now languishes in a box of broken models that I say someday I will re-do. Probably never.

  10. Brilliant work as always Tony

  11. Very nice model ! Well photographed.

  12. Classic aircraft, classic model, very nicely done, Tony.

  13. Very nice. I know the HK Meteor Mk IV is available in 1/32, but this looks more accurate.

  14. Tony, looks great. Your weathering and paint, look very good, hmmm, I have one on the stack, I should get going on !. Thanks for the inspiration.
