Building Monogram's 48th Scale DO-335 Arrow

August 12, 2015 · in Aviation · · 21 · 2.4K

I built this kit a while back. I have seen this aircraft at Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum/Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at the Dulles Airport in Washington DC. It is HUGE!

I ran across some photos taken right after the war when the plane was in British markings. This particular plane was eventually destroyed while being tested. I wanted to do an unusual scheme and felt this was really different when the kit first came out. I do not remember having any difficulties during construction. I have always wanted to do it as an air racer. Maybe someday I'll scratch that itch.

  1. It looks great Jack !

  2. I love it! It looks great in that scheme; well done indeed!

  3. Very nice...! Great job on the detail(s) and subtle weathering effect(s). The photos are really done well also.

  4. Great work on that old kit, I remember building it back when I was in High School. I sure wish mine had turned out as nice as yours did. Great job with the bare metal and camo blend.

  5. 🙂 .. Greetings ... 🙂 :
That is a nice one, you don't see much of them. Interesting aircraft, the model still to this date ... calls upon the viewers attention, more so with those markings. Well done and pictured .

  6. looks great !
    indeed.

    P.k

  7. hey that came out pretty good! nice job on the non-typical paint scheme too:)

  8. Jack, good job on a kit you don't see built much. I wonder how it would have done, had it got to squadron service? Probably a real problem for the Allies as a heavy fighter-bomber, had that internal bomb bay. Good platform for a night fighter and all weather attack plane. Figuring they had the fuel and semi air superiority, of course, both unlikely by the time.

  9. Great work Jack, the subtle weathering is really well done. Did you re-scribe the kit? I don't remember Monogram's kit having recessed panel lines.

  10. Excellent job Jack. Can't beat those good 'ol Monogram kits.

  11. Jack, Wonderful job, I like the RAF twist on the markings. I did a "Emily" flying boat in US markings (war prize), it got no love from contest judges, claimed it was a "Japaneses plane"...

  12. nice weathering

  13. Looks great - I like the weathered NMF, and it's always fun to see unusual schemes, like the NMF meshed with the original camo colors, along with British markings.

  18. What does that mean Tom?

  19. Stunning build, love the Do 335 and the old Monogram kit, your faded paint job is impressive.
Maybe this one as a racer ?
