1/48 Pro Modeler /Monogram Dornier Do-217E-5

October 17, 2015 · in Aviation · · 17 · 4.2K

This is Do-217E-5 “white 52” with Henschel Hs 293 missile from KG100 based at Biscay Bay against Allied shipping in summer 1943. This model was built several years ago.
Cockpit painted to RLM66 and modified with Eduard seat belts.
Under surfaces painted to RLM65 with Gunze Sangyo Acyrlics. Upper camouflage colours (RLM 72/73) have to be “re invented” by adding some drops of Tamiya medium blue to Gunze Sangyo RLM70/71.

  1. "...this model was built several years ago..."-

Well sir, your modeling skills certainly haven't deteriorated over the years. This build is equally as nice as your later examples. Talented work indeed.

  2. Wow. Another terrific build. I love the subtlety of your finishes and weathering.

  3. Tolga, what a nice, clean build! Nicely built and weathered just enough!
I am still amazed that the company put this out, though the truism that anything Luftwaffe sells springs to mind. Still! Believe me, I'm not complaining.
There's even conversion kits for this, so you can have the nightfighter version, or the rounded nose and inline engines. Might be a little hard to find, at this juncture.

    • Thanks Bernard,
Yes, Lone star conversion set is an alternative.
I have already 3 Monogram s 217 kits in my stocks. It s possible to finish a Do-217J next year.

  4. Spectacular. But from you, is the usual. Beautifully done.

  5. Nice paint and build!

  6. Well done Tolga. I like the fact you kept the weathering to a minimum as the actual aircraft would have been. Your masking around the canopy and green-house nose is excellent.

  7. Very nice, as always. 🙂

  8. Very nicely finished, Tolga, how long ago was it built?

  9. Thanks for your comments.

  10. Another flawless beauty, Tolga. Well done, indeed.

  11. Your work truly inspires me.

  12. Tail end Charlie here...and yet another classic from Toglua studios. 🙂

  13. Super nice build of one of my favourite planes. None of the Do-17 or 217 survived the war. One was lifted off the Thames estuary and is being preserved In Britain and a Do-217 salvage of parts happened in the Pyrenees where the resistance threw the wreck of a crashed one in a chasm so as to not be accused by the Nazis of having it shot down.
Hopefully we get to see a rebuild of one of them some day.
Thank you for showing your work.

  14. Beautifully built and finished, with excellent photography to boot!
Your mix for the RLM 72/73 looks spot on, are those the kit decals?
