Aeroclub/Airfix Spitfire Mk 21

January 27, 2016 · in Aviation · · 11 · 3.2K

This is a conversion of the Seafire 46/47 using the old Mk. 21 conversion set. The conversion uses the extended kit wing, landing gear, exhausts and miscellaneous parts along with Aeroclub's fuselage, radiator baths, tailplanes and spinner/propeller parts, I adapted a Squadron vacuformed canopy to the Aeroclub fuselage.
The pilot was pieced together from a Monogram Typhoon pilot and bits of styrene, solder and paper straps.

Paint is Testors Model Master enamels, and decals came from a mix of Techmod RAF insignia, Tally Ho serial numbers and Airfix Spit Mk XII code letters for No. 91 squadron. This machine - LA200 - appears in a photo from Osprey's 'Griffon Spitfire Aces'.
