"No Man's Land"

January 11, 2016 · in Diorama · · 13 · 2.4K

This is the old Emhar scale kit of the Mk. A "", which I added to a base that included the excellent WWI British soldiers by Master Box. I wanted to create a bombed-out, desolate, depressing landscape that illustrated "No Man's Land." The despair and desperation can be seen on the faces of the soldiers. I also opened up the top hatch of the Whippet and added a tank commander who is looking at the officer on the ground. I believed this tied the two together - soldiers and tank - to create the effect I was looking for.

  1. Excellent detail work...shows a lot of preparation went into this. Nice job.

  2. Joe. You did a nice job here.

  3. Really nice, I do like the earth tones.

  4. Yeah VERY good, you have created a very oppressive looking landscape. Cover the old Emhar with muck and it doesn't look too bad.

  5. Joe, nicely done! You got the effect you were aiming for. Everyone and everything looks beat up. The figures are very well done. Looks like the ORs are wearing leather jerkins over their uniforms for warmth. Nice grouping, too. Looks like the officer is trying to encourage the men, somehow I don't think it's working.

  6. Great job Joe! Love the weathering on the tank, and the landscape looks "desolate" to me!

  7. Thanks for the kind comments. Much appreciated. A couple of further build notes that I left out in my posting description. I did jack up the Emhar Whippet with the photo etch set from Airwaves. This proved very effective, especially the three engine vents per side. The kit vents are way too thick and you have to cut them open even if you wanted to leave them. The PE vents and a little tricky to get right but provide a much better scale look. The other comment I would make is that the figures look a bit too shiny, but that is really a result of the flash photography. In real life, they look more acceptably flat, as garments should. Thanks again.

  8. Great workonthe diorama. I like the details

  9. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Very nice work Joe, it captures the time period as well as the terrain.
It really gives one a sense of time.

  10. Very atmospheric, Joe, you must be very pleased with the finished model.

  11. thanks Joe - lovely work - both in terms of the individual pieces and the arrangement of the scene and its impact

  12. Cold, wet, depressing and miserable. Perfect diorama. Very well done!

  13. I like this very much and those old Emhar kits are a guilty pleasureof mine. Diorama is very effective. Masterbox figures are nice too.

The Emhar Whippet has some good marking options as well. Replace the track and buy some turned barrels and they are as nice as the Takom without all the fiddly wheels.
    Thanks
    Brian
