Tokyo Defender: Hasegawa 1/32 Ki-61 Hien
HI Folks,
Haven't been here in quite a while but wanted to share some builds I completed and posted on other sites.
Here is my 1/.32 Ki-61 Hien built as Major Teruhiko Kobayashi's aircraft that he flew with the 244th Sentai famously known to the Japanese as Tokyo's defenders. Kobayashi was the unit's CO and one of the youngest Sentai Leaders in the Japanese Army Air force in early 1945.
THAT'S a good lookin' model. Being it's one of my favorite planes helps.How did you do the camouflage?
I agree with Bill and have the same question...what method DID you utilize to achieve that stunning pattern?
OK- I'll third that- great looking build and paint job... how was masking/paint done? Love the Ki-61... kind of like the Bf 109 and Mc 205 had a bastard. 😉

Thanks for the kind comments on my K-61. To answer your questions I used a mask from Gator Masks. It a vinyl mask that has 4 separate masks, 1 for each wing and the left and right side fuselage.
The hinomaru's were also painted on using masks and the red fuselage band was painted on as well.

Beautiful David. The Hein and Raiden tie for my favorite Japanese aircraft, and I haven't yet build the Hein but have a couple in my stash. I love the scheme on yours, and believe I'll attempt to replicate, although at 1/72 I probably won't find masks! I love the way you chipped back the glare panel also - looks very convincing.

Yes Greg, the chipping is in an area where the ground crew would open the top panel to get at the fuselage guns.
