Trumpeter 1/32 F4U-4 Corsair

February 13, 2016 · in Aviation · · 12 · 4.2K

I made it in 2011.
's -4 in the livery of the training unit of the 50'S. The hint is in the profiles published by Kagero.
I took the liberty to place the load underwing although it is probably not correct.
The national insignia and the livery was obtained with the masking for airbrush. Some cable to the wheel wells, seat belts are self-made, some additions at right gun bay.
The rest is almost completely "Out of Box ".
Hello everyone and good job!

  1. Nice job Davide, unusual finish, very attractive. Nice paint finish and weathering.

  2. Outstanding build, sir...very eye-catching scheme...I love it!

  3. Davide, that's an end-of-the-line scheme for a -4 out of Naval Air Reserve base, Olathe, Kansas. It shows the transition between the Gloss Sea Blue overall scheme, and the 1957 change to Gull Gray uppers, white lowers.

The photo I remember of the actual aircraft looked like it was taken after it was removed from service. Usually, the insignia are painted over, but not yet in this case. Awaiting sale or scrapping, or being flown to the storage facility. Litchfield, then?

It makes for something really different, catching the end of the -4 and the changeover to the new scheme.

  4. Very nice work Davide, thoughtb provoking colour scheme, pilots who flew her in those days probably couldn't wait to get onto the modern jets, todays modern jet pilots would probably love to have a crack at flying such a historic, challenging beast! Unbearable today to think how many would have been unceromoniously scrapped!

  5. Corsairs always look good, and are very popular models on this site, this one also looks good, and it's nice to see an alternative colour scheme.

  6. Beautiful work on my most favorite airplane, ever! You are a better builder than I, in that I gave up on this kit when I was 3/4 of the way through it, and gave it away at a club meeting.

  7. Wow - very cool choice of scheme, and a great build. Looks really good!

  8. I did one of these AC in 1/48th scale-yours is a Beauty all around, thanks for posting it.

  9. Beautiful! Awesome paint job!
