Monogram 1/32 Panzer Mk IV

May 26, 2016 · in Armor · 11 · 3.1K

This kit has been on my shelf over a year so after finishing my last build I decided it was time for this. I was a bit perturbed when I realized it was 1/32, not 1/35 like like my other two tanks...I like consistency of scale...

Anyway it was fun, but I have to say this old 70's era kit had more flash than any one I have built. I had to remove it from almost every single part, more time consuming than actually building it.

The gray base is rattle can Model Master Navy Agressor Gray and the winter white wash is about a 4:1 water/acrylic wash. Weathered with some sludgy acrylic mix and Tamiya powders, with Dullcoat on top. Hope you like it.

Now up, the F4 Phantom group build entry...that will take a while...

  1. I'd forgotten (or more likely, never knew) that Monogram even produced this kit. In any event, the model came out nice...good work, Ralph. Besides, it'll look right at home with your collection of 35th tanks, I think...the Tiger was pretty big - I doubt anybody would even notice the scale discrepancy.

  2. Ralph, nice job on the Mk IV. The winter wash is really good, well done. I didn't know this kit was out again. But then, I don't usually look at the tanks when I visit the plastic pushers.
I did buy an armored car recently, 1/48th Tamiya Humber.

  3. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Ralph ... this model brings back memories ... lot's of them, even the diorama sheet written by the late, but never forgotten Mr. Shepard Paine. One of my favorites in this series is the Lee Tank. Also the Screaming Mimi and the Half Tracks.
You have done a good job on this one.
Thanks for the images ... this is a delight ... thank you.

  4. Finish looks great on this - really like what you did with the wash.

  5. Nice. convincing camo.

  6. Nice finish. I've always thought that wintry whitewash is one of the most difficult finishes to pull off, and I think you've done a very nice job of it.

  7. Great winter camoflage effect on this, Ralph.

  8. Hi everyone. Thanks so much for the nice remarks. I chose to try the winter camo only because it looked easier and simpler than the 3 colored camo scheme which was the other machine the kit had decals for.

  9. Great looking tank Ralph, excellent finish!

  10. an oldie, but still a goody -- my first armor kit built in the 70's ... love the winter camo -- not an easy look to pull off well ... nicely done.
