Emhar F3H-2M Demon 1/72

July 19, 2016 · in Aviation · · 10 · 3K

As I was responding to Tom Clever's post today of his older build, I decided to post my rendition of the Demon.

I've built 2 kits, and only buy/build them because they are generally the only option (at least at the time) to secure a particular subject, at least in my scale. They are pretty poor kits - soft plastic, no detail, over-scale panel lines, etc.

This build was completely out of the box except for the creation of the airbrakes, cut out of styrene. I don't remember if the pilot came with the kit - I think probably not, so that was also added. I had read that the supports inside the intakes were actually supposed to be perpendicular to the curve of the intake, and considered attempting to modify them, but in the end decided not.

The white was rattle-can sprayed, and the gull grey was MM - brush painted as usual. This was I think my second attempt to do a panel line wash and some post shading. Some of the panel lines were simply gouges, and in 1-to-1 scale would probably hide my fist! Thus the panel wash and overall weathering looks a bit overdone (you can really tell on the underside, and I included a close-up of one of the upper surface gouges). Consider this part of the "evolution of a modeler" project, finished back in 2012.

  1. Doesn't look all THAT bad, Greg...I like it.

  2. I love it. Tom certainly is clever, but he's also sharp - a Cleaver. 🙂

Nice work on a sow's ear.

  3. Looks fine, it just missed a few fresh water was downs,I did the Emhar kit also, its like some of the Matchbox kits.

    Nice work LIKE!

  7. Greg, nice work, I recall the kit could best be described as "clunky", but maybe that's as it should be, so's the actual plane!
Only game in town in 72nd, unless there's some obscure vacuform, a ways back on the plastic continuum.
I'm guessing you got their F-94? I think it was only the two?

  8. I'm no expert but it looks pretty good from here, nice work, Greagg (sic)!
