Grumman A-6E Intruder VA 36

July 4, 2016 · in Aviation · · 14 · 2.9K

Hi there again,

I want you to show another model of my growing collection. This time it's the A-6E kit in 1:72. It took me about 3 weeks to finish this beautiful kit. With the exception of those 2 bang seats all extra parts are self-made. The cockpit is actually completely new, as I thought the one provided with the kit as not good enough. The main and the nose landing gear also received a lot of attention and the opened avionic bay is scratch built as well. Coloring was done with Gunze Acrylics and several washes with oil colors. For the final weathering I used various pigments, nothing special. A little wooden base, the tractor, 3 figures and some other details, that's it. It was a fun to build this kit and I'm pretty sure this will not be the last for my collection.

As usual if there are any questions please let me know.

Cheers

René

  1. Well done Rene, very detailed in this scale. Nice imagery as well. Great subject for this 4th of July day. Have seen a few Italeri Intruders built over the years, seem to have good detail and one of the better kits in this scale. Don't have this one in the stash only have the Fujimi kit which is not bad either. Thanks for sharing and Happy 4th.!

  2. Rene, a scratchbuilt cockpit and avionics bay? In 72nd? Madre de Dios! I'd have thought it was the larger Trumpeter(whichever) Just amazing, museum quality build, my sincere admiration. Shame I'm not in your neighborhood, I'd come see it.
You aren't scratchbuilding a nuclear carrier to go with it, are you?

  3. Nicely finished, Rene...I like the fact that you incorporated the tie-downs - I assume you scratch-built them as well (perhaps some leftover chain from a ship or armor piece)?

  4. Awesome model work Rene as well as the deck scene.

  5. well made and very well displayed

  6. Beatiful and attractive diorama.

    Nice build !
    And diorama ruls.

  8. Even in 1/48 the jets are pretty big as models, and you've cleverly worked out a sensible storage solution - raise the wings!

A very nice vignette, with great attention to detail.

  9. Love! It! I've got this kit in the stash, and I'd love to see some more detailed pics of the cockpit that you tricked out. What did you use for the coil hanging from the canopy? Did you post a WIP of the project anywhere?

Again - just a gorgeous build!

  10. Beautiful job all around, I was wondering about the tie down chains also.

  11. Great work, Rene!

  12. Excellent work, very beautiful!

  13. Outstanding build, Rene! It's just superb in every way. It's incredible that it's in 1:72 scale too. Well done, Sir!

  14. Excellent constructed.
I especially liked the details on the tie-down chains.
