Hasegawa 1:32 Kawanishi N1K2 Shiden “George”

August 20, 2016 · in Aviation · · 19 · 2.4K

Hello,

It has been a while since my last post, almost one and a half year.
I had a very rough time the last 1,5 years... in a nut-shell; burn-out, divorce, got sacked after 17 years... but I'm doing very fine right now.
Well this is my first build since january 2015 and it started as a bet with my "shrink" ( well not really a shrink but social worker, she guided me during my burn out.)
We made a bet that I would start building again before i had my next appointment with her, or at least make a start with a model, Because I didn't feel like doing anything, . ( Is that a correct sentence?) I had two weeks to start.
Well... I won the bet,,,,,
So here is my 1:32 scale Kawanishi N1K2-J .
It's the kit, which was laying in my stash I believe since 2013. ( Still have a Doyasha Shiden in my stash...)
It was an easy build. This kit is such an easy build that you can build it drunk, with one hand tied to your back and a pirate's eye patch on your eye, while watching TV with the other... 😉 😉 😉
The antenna post is scratch build , made it of Evergreen strip because the kit's post broke twice when I tried to attach antenna-wire to it... 🙁 ( so I ommited the wire.)
I used mainly Tamiya paint , I believe the wheels are painted with Revell enamel paint and weathered with such.
On bottom; different shades of Tamiya acrylics, flat aluminium, titanium and chrome silver.
Top; IJN green, IFF flat yellow with a drop of red, Tamiya flat red for the Hinumarus.
Everything is painted or sprayed on this kit except the tailcode, the little stencils, the kanji markings "no step".
Exhaust stains are sprayed with Tamiya sand , grey and black.
Vallejo wahes are used, brown, black and green. ( all diluted with alcohol.)
Weathering is done with Tamiya pastels, artist chalks and Revell enamels; silver, brown and green.

So I dedicate this one to that very beautiful, very smart and extremely funny lady Natascha...

Best regards;
Ulrich
