Two Oldies Join Forces

August 18, 2016 · in News · · 12 · 1.4K

Italeri came out with the Opel Maultier years ago and along with the older Tamiya FLAK 2 cm Quad I brought them together in my multitudes of vehicles.

Neither kit is of the high quality found in today's kits but there is enjoyment in every model. Each lacks the crispness of the plastic but both are enjoyable to build as newer kits flood the market with photo-etched parts and almost impossible numbers of parts to make one sub-assembly. Although these are great kits as well, there's nothing like an oldies to bring back the true flavor of .

  2. Looks like a good fit to any collection...nice job.

  3. Excellent combo.

  4. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :

I'll tell you this John ... old or new, they make a great pair.

True one should not compare the old tooling with what we have today, but let's get real. Those "OLD" kits are what WE had back then and what gave us much good times and such cherished moments. Look at the MONOGRAM series of jet planes too mention a few. Engraved panels none, but they still can stand their own and the make for good models.

So John, rest assured, this combo looks nice and would seem better yet in a diorama ... so get working ! ... 😀 .

    • Thank you for looking and yes I still have several original boxed Monogram models, the Weasel being my favorite. That was one of my first models as the original came out in the 60s I built it at about 12 years old. Yes at 65 I remember all the great kits!
More to see at my Hobbies in a Barn on Facebook.

  5. Looks good to me. I enjoy building some of those old kits, they're just plain fun to do, and they look good if done well. You did well sir.

  6. Thank you all, I have lots to see at Hobbies in a Barn, the viewing place on Facebook where I build for my own likes and occasionally build custom orders. PM for details if you like.

  7. Well shipmate, I love the old italeri Opel trucks, the Maultier being one of them, nice to see one built. Have the standard truck and the tracked version, well done. I have old and new stuff in the stash, and you know a Monogram along with the older stuff really holds up against the newer tech kits. Thanks for the memories. Fond ones.

  8. Chuck and all,
