Hasegawa 1/48 Willys Follow Me Jeep

My first attempt at a military vehicle completed several years ago and before owning an airbrush. Had some vague idea about using it for a diorama.but do to "sometimers" the idea has been lost. This kit was a bit of a challenge as it's small and has a total of 67 parts. In spite of that the fit was fine and it goes together well. Just be prepared to use some sort magnification to work with it as the naked eye didn't work for me.

Model Master paints were used as well as the kit decals, I wasn't brave enough to use the red/white checker board scheme decals which were also included in the box. Used some rattle can OD, but most of the engine and interior was hand painted. Thought I would keep her clean so no wash or pastel chalks were used. BTW, the P-51 is the old Accurate Miniatures kit in 1/48.

As I'm sure you all know the American Batnam company won the 1940 US Army design competition for a small mobile reconnaissance,liaison and troop transport vehicle. By 1941 three prototypes were built and evaluated, the Bantam 40 BRC,the Willy's Overland, and Ford's GB. The Willy's Overland was declared the winner, Thus the 1/4 ton 4x4 Command Reconnaissance Willy's MB or "Jeep" was born. It became so popular with the troops that upon retaining home from WWII quite a few wanted to purchase one for personal use. Thus an entire new car industry catering to 4x4 vehicles based upon the Jeep was created..
