1/72 Airfix Mk.1 Bristol Blenheim

December 19, 2016 · in Aviation · · 29 · 2.6K

Finally got this together and set up. COLD SHOTS ! It's -6 C. I chose the alternate Romanian markings, and did some weathering. I counter sunk the air intakes, and made replacement pins and bushings for the props. Finished with Model Master.I Re-coated all the glass with Tamiya clear.

  1. A good lookin' build, Phil...

  2. Never mind! There she is! -6C?! That's like REALLY COLD in fahrenheit! Love this and the VooDoo.

  3. Nice work Phil, this has to be one of my favorite "ugly" airplanes (the design itself, not your model). You have done a wonderful build on it. Looks really great, and the perfect back drop. I Like it !

  4. Yes, good looking model Phil, well done, I have a Mk 4 to build at some time.

  5. More proof, if it was needed, that the new Airfix kits are great. This one looks really nice in the outdoor setting. -6C is fairly mild, the temperature dips down to -25C regularly round here...

    • Thanks George. This kit did have some problems with fit in the bomb bay area and wind screen, requiring some shims. The pilot figure was unusable as well : looked like the end mill broke off. Good decals though, and a far cry from the original offering, which I have.

  6. Another fine job Phil! Brrrr...Two degrees F. is the lowest I've ever seen!

  7. Lovely work Phil - it looks great !

  8. Great looking build! Nice shading, etc.

  9. Nice clean build, nice sharp photos.

  10. Nice work, interesting markings.

  11. Nice, Phil. I love that kit.

  12. I never knew the Romanians flew Blenheim's . (I was under the impression they flew mainly Axis power aircraft.) I learned something here. Yours looks very good in this color scheme. Outstanding work... Plus I like the background of your photos. Two thumbs up !

  13. It's true. A small number of Blenheims were sent to Romania in 1939, so the type actually fought on both sides. I only have one other model with Romanian markings, an old Matchbox 109 E Thanks Louis !

    • Very cool tidbit of information. I just picked up the 1/48 Hobby Boss Romanian IAR-80. It's pretty high on the to build list. Like you I don't have but a few Romanian planes. Thanks for sharing with us.
