Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:48

December 5, 2016 in Aviation

Hello iModelers, my Airfix Spitfire Mk.Vb trop in 1:48 scale is done.
It was the prize for the random award won a while back. Thanks again !
Details from build build can be found here:

Build mostly oob, using a detail set from Eduard for the cockpit and decals from Eagle Strike. The markings are for Major Levines ER 570. 4 F.S from June 1943. Paints from Humbrol, Revell and Model Master.
The kit is fun to build, much more complex as the Tamiya Spitfires but no problems. The only complains are the very thick clear parts and the weak undercarriage, hope it will stand the test of time without problems.
Can t say much how accurate my build is, found only quite blurry pictures in the net but i am happy with the result.
Hope you like it

  1. That’s a nice looking Spit Bernd. Nice to see it done so well.

  2. Good scheme, Bernd. Very nice finishes,

    • Cheers Rob. After surfing in the net for this kit, i noted nearly everybody did the Operation Spotter version from the kit.
So i thought it would be nice to present it in a more different scheme.

  3. Very nice mate. I did the same ones some time ago.

  4. It’s always fun to see a Spit in Yank markings. Yours looks superb Bernd! It’s weathered just right; and I like the paint work too. Your camo came out perfect I’d say. Very well done indeed!

  5. Always been very fond of the yellow ringed Torch markings on American aircraft. This came out a beauty.

  6. I could tell from the single photo you posted on your build thread yesterday that this one was going to look nice………….. and it really does !!!!! Your Spitfire looks great. I like the colors and the “Yank” markings make it a great combination.

    Thanks for sharing friend.

    • Thank you very much for this compliment, Louis !
The Sunday photo session went bad because of the worse light conditions outside and some glitches revealed by the unvorgiving eye of the camera.
So i had to return to the bench, now i am more satisfied with it.More modelling soon 🙂

  7. Bernd, that really turned out beautifully. Thanks for posting more photos.

  8. An excellent result, Bernd….very nice indeed. Great job!

  9. Another stunner build, Bernd! Love it.

  10. Nice! Excellent weathering.

    • Thank you for the kind comment, Robert.
Weathering was done with a dark acrylic wash from Lifecolors weathering set for aircraft. and staining was done with colored pencis recovered from my scool days.

  11. Really nice, Bernd. I like it!

  12. Great trop.
Nothing to disparage your model, but there are about 25 variations on “Middlestone” out there.

  13. It’s always nice to a prize built up, especially when it’s as nice as this. I like the headline picture very much, very atmospheric.

  14. Bernd, really good looking spit. I have to admit I dislike that big ugly filter they put on these, but facts are what they are and that’s the way these looked. This does look really nice however, you did a very nice job on this.

  15. Nice work Bernd – the desert schemes are a welcome change from the standard RAF scheme!
