iModeler November Awards

December 11, 2016 · in Uncategorized · · 19 · 2K

It's time for the year's final Awards announcement. As our regular readers would know, our way of celebrating the authors at iModeler is awarding monthly kit prizes among the contributions of the month.

November was a very prolific period with a whopping 144 articles posted to the headlines, which also included many memorable photo reports from the IPMS Scale Modelworld and Monte San Savino 2016. With additional 1642 comments, there was plenty to look at and do every day!

All Headline contributions are included in our traditional monthly prize draw. We're awarding the Best in Show title to the entry that in the eyes of the jury represents the month's highlight in terms of modeling quality and presentation. We also allot another award to a randomly chosen article to emphasize that all contributions to this site deserve recognition.

Please don't hesitate to join iModeler and take part in our next monthly roundup.

iModeler Best in Show - November 2015

The jury's highlight of the month is Grega X's Spitfire Mk.IXc in 1/48 scale. A model which in the words of its author represents "a severe case of AM (aftermarket) syndrome"...

Like most of you, we have seen many great Spitfire models before, but this one raises above the field not only by all the added detailing but also, and even mostly, by its spotlessly clean execution.

Frankly, we believe that a mere addition of aftermarket stuff does not necessarily make a better model. It is the modeler's ability to bind together the different components, conceal the surgical scars, find a uniform expression in all detailing own and added, add the paint job that brings all that work to life... The magic of superdetailing is in getting it all together to something that a viewer perceives like an obvious whole. This is where Grega X's Spitfire sets the bar for all of us to follow.

But wait, there is more...

As said before, we are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is Tzigkounakis Tasos with his recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa F-8E Crusader. Thanks for making iModeler an inspiring place to visit!

(Another contribution by Tasos is also among the Honorable Mentions of the month)

  8. Tough choices...tough choices indeed. Good work everyone!

  9. Greg X's Spitfire ...must have been the easiest choice in memory for "Best in Show" and it does it on many levels. Giving the viewer a momentary suspension of disbelief in thinking that a model is more than plastic. It captures the character and prejudices of what modelers think a Spitfire should be. If your a manufacture of those resin goodies and add on s it represents what can be done with their product...so there not a waste and they do enhance a kit when executed properly. For the average modeler these products can be frustrating and they get pooh, poohed or ignored but,Greg having the proper skill set has shown that they do enhance the model. Finally, the photography and the absence of dust and particles combined with lighting that enhances the model is the knock out punch. Dust particles on the canopy can be the give away...unless there is a proper scale dust. Two thumbs on the "Best"

  10. A great group of models, and a wonderful top winner, "Way to go guys" !
